Mwingi North MP John Munuve has blamed former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka for the hunger and famine crisis facing some parts of Ukambani region.

Munuve claims that Kalonzo could have helped the region mitigate perennial hunger and famine when he was the VP.

Speaking when he distributed relief food to locals facing starvation in Ngomeni Ward on Tuesday, Munuve said that Kalonzo should have drilled irrigation dams and other water reservoirs to cushion locals from hunger when he served the country’s Vice President.

The MP claimed that Kalonzo did not value the interests of Ukambani during his tenure as VP.

“The problems facing Ukambani including hunger and famine are happening because of Kalonzo and other veteran leaders who served in the government and failed to deliver for the Kamba people,” he said.

The MP alleged that Kalonzo only championed the rights of other communities and forgot his own people.

Munuve observed that perennial hunger and famine that Ukambani faces could have been mitigated many years ago.

The MP asked Ukambani locals to vote for leaders who will champion development in the August polls.

He said that the region needs visionary leaders who have the interests of the people at heart.

“What Ukambani needs now is leaders who have vision and agenda for the people,” he said.

The Wiper rebel MP cautioned locals against being cheated by selfish politicians who are after their votes.

Munuve who later issued land titles to some locals urged the Jubilee government to speed up issuance of land titles to all locals.

He observed that most residents who own land genuinely have no titles a situation he said has led to increase in land conflict.
