Meru governor Peter Munya's re-election bid has been dealt a huge blow with just under two weeks to the August 8 general elections.
This was after a resident moved to court alleging that the County chief was using County funds to oil his re-election campaign.
The petition compelled Munya to postpone his manifesto launch that was slated for last Sunday.
But in a quick rejoinder on Monday, the governor refuted claims that he was using public resources to bankroll his political activities, accusing his political rivals of spreading propaganda about him.
"They are spreading rumors claiming I am using county resources to campaign. Do they want me to stop my work for the residents because of elections?" He posed.
"The county will not stop functioning because of the election. The projects I am undertaking are not personal projects but belong to the county," he added.
Munya is facing stiff competition in a bid to recapture from his from Senator Kiraitu Murungi, who is eyeing the county's top seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
