Meru governor Peter Munya has lashed out at critics over his 2022 presidential bid, insisting that he has all it takes to take on Deputy President William Ruto.
“Those criticising my bid should keep off. I have what it takes to beat Ruto. What does he have that I don’t? He is not more educated than I am,” Munya said on Thursday.
Last month, Senator Kiraitu Murungi poked holes on Munya's presidential bid, urging him to shelve his ambitions and instead back the Deputy President.Murungi noted that Munya does not have what it takes to win the country's top seat.
"There is nothing new about Munya’s bid. He will be humiliated,” the lawmaker said. But on his part, Munya said it is his democratic right to seek the presidency.
“I have not told him to seek the presidency in 2022, I am the one who is going for it. What is his problem? Why does he think Ruto is the only one who is capable?” he posed. He further affirmed his support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid during the forthcoming general elections.
