Speaking after opening the party’s offices in Nyeri and Karatina towns, Munya vowed to campaign for the President to ensure he is re-elected during the August 8 general elections.

“The President has performed well and needs a second term in office. Kenya has seen massive development within the four years he has been power," said Munya.

The Meru governor said he will camp in opposition Cord’s strongholds drumming up support for President Uhuru and for his party (PNU).

“I will criss-cross the country opening PNU offices and campaigning for the President’s re-election in the forthcoming polls," he remarked.

The governor at the same time dismissed reports that he is fighting President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto by declining to join the Jubilee Party.

“I have been campaigning for Uhuru in all counties, not only in Central Kenya. How then am I fighting the President," he posed. The Council of Governors chairman has been termed a 'rebel' by a section of Jubilee leaders after he declined to fold PNU to join Jubilee Party.

“We should allow more political parties to exist. Voters should be allowed to have multiple parties to vote for," he said in his defence.
