Meru governor Peter Munya has been sued for allegedly intending to use public funds in campaigns ahead of the August 8 polls.
In an affidavit filed at the Meru High Court on Friday, by a resident Francis Curukia ,Munya intends to use Sh19,896,720 for his manifesto launch on Sunday, July 23.
He alleges that Munya is intending to use the money in disguised as a youth’s business challenge and sports day.
Through lawyer Kiogora Mugambi, Curukia claims the funds have been drawn from the Meru County Department of Culture, Gender, Sports, Youth & Social Service.
Curukia states that the governor has already placed advertisements in the media about the said event to a tune of Sh1,100,000.
He states that this contravenes Section 14(2) of the Election Offences Act which prohibits publication of any advertisements of achievements of the respective government either in the print media, electronic media, or by way of banners or hoardings in public places during the election period.
