Outgoing Council of Governors chairman Peter Munya has said that his 2022 gubernatorial bid is unstoppable.

Munya says that he will be on the ballot for the presidential ticket in the next five years adding that no one can stop him from contesting the top seat.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Munya said that he is ripe to be the country’s next president after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s retirement.

The Meru governor said that his supporters are rallying him to contest for the governor seat then but he says his ambition is bigger.

“I will be on the ballot in 2022 and no one will stop me from fulfilling that ambition,” he said during the interview.

Munya said that he will square it out with the Deputy President William Ruto and others for the presidential seat after Uhuru's term despite the Mt Kenya region agreeing to back DP Ruto’s presidential bid. He said the agreement will not prevent him from contesting for the presidency.

Deputy President William Ruto is banking on Mt Kenya to support his 2022 bid after Uhuru’s retirement.

A section of Mt Kenya politicians have openly claimed that it is not automatic that the region will endorse DP Ruto with Kiambu governor William Kabogo once quoted saying that the DP will have to work for the Mt Kenya votes like any other candidate.

Kabogo, however, distanced himself from the claim saying he was misunderstood.

There are claims that Kabogo and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth are being groomed to succeed President Kenyatta as Mt Kenya political kingpin.

Kabogo was on Saturday endorsed the chair of the Kenyan Association of Independent Candidates (KAIC) with speculations that he is fronting himself as a possible presidential contender in the 2022 general election.
