Meru governor Peter Munya has turned the tables on Senator Kiraitu Murungi for likening Party of National Unity (PNU) to 'a goat waiting to be slaughtered during August polls'.
Munya, who is the PNU party leader, said Kiraitu is playing old-age politics that has become 'unfashionable and outdated'.
"He was once a member of PNU and even served as its secretary general. Why didn't he refer to the party he was leading as a goat at that time?" posed Munya.
Kiraitu made the remarks on Friday during the launch of the Jubilee Party smart card at Kasarani Stadium.
“We will meet with some of our brothers who are also seeking the governor’s seat but don’t be scared. There is a goat wandering out there called PNU, we will slaughter it in August 2017,” Kiraitu had said.
Speaking in Embu while opening a PNU office on Saturday, Munya said Kiraitu should realise and accept that he is a ‘spent cartridge’ in the politics of Meru, urging him to retire and leave leadership to the younger generation.
“His retirement days are here. His politics are so old age that he needs to go home and spend the time left with his children," Munya said.
Munya vowed that that would be the last time he would respond to Kiraitu saying that he is the senior most politician in Meru region being the chairman of the Council of Governors and also being the party leader of PNU.
"I will only be responding to issues raised by other party leaders and not ordinary party members like Kiraitu," he added.
