Machakos MP Vincent Munyaka wants the national government to double funds allocated to security agencies so as to enhance the war against crime and terrorism.
The MP while addressing the public at Machakos Town on Tuesday, said agencies mandated to streamline security are underfunded.
The Machakos lawmaker stated that the country will be exposed more to terror if the government fails to invest more in security.
“The first step by the government towards fighting crime is to increase funding to the security agencies,” he said.
Munyaka said that there is need for security agencies to be provided with more vehicles and even helicopters to be used in terms of emergencies.
He observed previous security threats have clearly shown that the country lacks proper resources.
The MP said that security of the country needs to be streamlined.
He also asked the government to ensure that police officers and other law enforcers are well remunerated to curb cases of corruption.
Munyaka noted that corruption is rife in the police force because officers are paid peanuts.
At the same time, the MP has advised the government to involve religious leaders in finding solutions to the problems facing it especially on security and corruption.
