Munyu residents in Thika East have vowed not to pay Kiambu County Government any levies till Munyu-Githima-Kangooki road is constructed.
They chased away levy collectors who had reported there on Wednesday to collect daily levies as usual as they paralyzed transport along Thika-Garissa road.
Residents say that they are worried that after a nearby quarry is fully exploited, the road will never be constructed.
"We have been calling on the county government to help us make this road to no avail. It is now completely impassable with the ongoing rains," said John Mwangi, a resident.
They said that the county government collects over Sh500,000 daily but the money doesn't reflect on the ground.
"If they cannot construct the road, let them tell us we shall make it ourselves. But as we do that, they can as well forget our taxes. We are also not going to allow anymore quarrying activities here till the road is fully fixed," Njoroge Mwaura said.
They said that efforts by private individuals who volunteer and try and fix the road have always been thwarted by the county government as they are arrested and fined heavily.
