Two hawkers are nursing serious injuries in hospital after they were hit by a speeding vehicle along Munyu Road on Monday morning.
According to the traffic police officer who was on duty at the area, the two were hawking their products as usual when the vehicle hit them.
“He sped past the other vehicles and knocked down the two hawkers who operate around this place every morning. He however drove off but we have the number plates and we will search for him,” the officer who requested anonymity said.
Thika deputy traffic police base commander John Lisoi has confirmed that the two are receiving treatment in Thika Level Five Hospital and that the vehicle that ran them over drove off.
This comes barely a day after another accident occurred in Muguga along Garissa Road claiming three lives and leaving seven people injured.
The number of accidents in Thika has been on the rise recently and according to the commander, there is need to conduct regular inspections on vehicles that are un-roadworthy and bar those speeding, overloading or those lacking the digital speed governors from operating.
Speaking from his office today, Lisoi said that regular crackdowns by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and his officers haven't made a significant change saying that stricter measures will be put in place.
