Juja MP Francis Munyua has raised concern over cases of child negligence in the area.
The MP said parents have abandoned their role leaving all the responsibility to the teachers.
Speaking in Juja on Sunday, the legislator said he is concerned about the lives of students in boarding schools in Kenya.
He added that parents failure to monitor their children's whereabouts has caused the young generation to indulge in all sorts of criminal activities which might end up ruining their lives.
“I am concerned as a parent about what is happening to our youths in Kenya, especially in our boarding schools, both primary and secondary. Our young sons and daughters are being targeted by drug barons and al-Shabaab and are also indulging in illicit brew and other types of drugs,” said Munyua.
The MP further condemned a section of NGOs claiming that they pretend to have good will in mentoring the students only to mislead them without the teachers’ knowledge by enticing them with drug-laced edibles.
“We did away with school mid term visits only for groups to find their way to schools in the name of NGOs and well wishers and bring sweets and biscuits laced with hard drugs to our students,” said Munyua.
Munyua called on parents to avoid giving their children a lot of pocket money as they later misuse the money by buying drugs and other illegal things.
