Murang'a county leaders led by Kiharu MP Irungu Kang'ata have pledged to accord Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Peter Kenneth support ahead of the August polls.
Speaking on Tuesday during a press briefing at Parliament Buildings, Kang'ata dismissed lashed out at 'Team Nairobi' for branding Kenneth "a foreigner", observing that Nairobi is a metropolitan area where anyone can seek any elective seat without intimidation.
"It is very sad to see leaders, whom we presume to have matured politically, fighting our son because he has declared interest in a seat he has the right to vie," he said.
"They know they have no impact on Nairobi voters, who have direct and indirect links with Murang'a. They have no choice but to work with Murang'a," he added.
Kang'ata's remarks were backed by Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, who noted that anyone is at liberty to seek an elective position in Nairobi.
Kenneth formally announced his interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on Monday.
