After over 100 years of waiting, thousands of Murang'a Mjini residents will be receiving their title deeds on Friday.

Governor Mwangi Wa Iria said they had decided to issue land leases to the residents of that community who had occupied the land since 1890 but have failed to develop it due to lack of the important document.

According to the Governor, Murang'a County government had commissioned the surveying of the land to give way for land titling after a long period of waiting.

He said he is not issuing the title deeds with an aim to win votes from the community but to see the county prosper.

He also said that issuing land titles will offer the security of land tenure which will help in opening up the area to commercial ventures, specifically in real estate.

"Lack of development in Mjini is not only a disadvantage to Mjini residents only but was also a constraint in terms of growth to the county government," he said.
