A Kikuyu court has today put off the trial of a man for alleged murdering his wife after a key witness failed to turn up in a court hearing. 

The prosecution told the court that the witness was undergoing a leg surgery after he got a road accident last week hence his failure to show up in court.

The accused, Francis Wambugu, 42, apparently stabbed his wife six times on the chest in their house in Ondiri on February 3, 2015 with a kitchen knife after his wife discovered he had a second family and confronted him. 

The man stabbed her on the left side of the chest at around 9 pm when he arrived from work. He then escaped after committing the crime. 

Word got to the police and a hunt for him began.During this time, Wambugu had fled to his second wife's home in Nairobi, Kawangware area.

He was however spotted in Zambezi on November 29 2015 where he had come to a friends to pick some of his belongings. Members of the public informed the police who arrested him and detained him at Kikuyu Police station. 

Chief Magistrate James Ogweno adjourned the hearing for 20th January where three witnesses are set to testify.
