Speaking at the scene in Kahawa Wendani where a woman was stabbed to death by a man who has been funding her university education, Gathogo urged young girls to be independent and work hard to achieve what they want in life.

"It is very painful to a mother to lose a daughter with such a promising future. I want to urge our girls in university to be patient in life and work hard to achieve their goals in life," said Gathogo.

The victim of the killing, Edinas Nyainda, was stabbed several times with a knife by her 30-year- old lover, identified as Maxwell Okoth.

Reports indicate that the two had a disagreement after the woman, who graduated two weeks ago from Kenyatta University, threatened to leave the man.

Gathogo described the killing as shocking and saddening. She urged couples to opt for peaceful ways to resolve differences.

"It is saddening when a young girl's life is snuffed out by her lover just because they differed. If people cannot live together it is better to part ways,"she said.
