Edward Mwangi, 33, from Ruiru appeared before the Chief magistrate Stephen Mbungi charged that on April 5, 2015 in Murera sisal area, he was found with two metal rails, property of Kenya Railways.

While testifying, Stephen Wanjohi, a police officer stationed at Ruiru Police Station told the court how on the material day he was informed that there was vandalism done on the railway line at the Ruiru-Nairobi lane.

Together with another officer, Wanjohi proceeded to the scene of crime and confirmed the vandalism and while on a patrol at Murera Trading Centre, they came across the workshop operated by the accused where they saw the said metal bars.

The police officers questioned the accused about the metal rails but could not get a satisfactory answer and the suspect turned violent.

However, the officers managed to arrest him and escorted him to Ruiru Police Station and charged him with the offence.

The accused denied the allegations, claiming that he found the metal in the officers’ vehicle when he was arrested. He was released on Sh300,000 cash bail.
