Speaking to journalists at the site on Thursday, the residents expressed joy saying that they will be saved the agony of using the impassable road during the El Nino rains.

"I stay at Murimo, two kilometres from Kiganjo main stage where I board the matatu to work in Thika Town. I was worried of how I will be connecting from home to the stage because this road is not even accessible to motorbikes during the rainy season,” said John Kioko, a hardware attendant.

Mary Wambui, a casual labourer at Delmonte said she was considering buying gumboots.

"It was the only viable option with this kind of road but I can shelve the idea for now,” she said.

Kamenu MCA Mary Hussein who flagged off the project said that more feeder roads in the area will receive a facelift ahead of the rains.

"The exercise has started elsewhere in the ward and we are doing the same in Kiganjo and its environs,” said Hussein.

The MCA launched the construction of the Kiganjo-Kiang'ombe feeder road a week ago.
