Murkomen told the governor that he did not require more bodyguards and the firearms. Some of Joho’s security personnel were withdrawn from him in a move he said was abrupt and with no notice. Murkomen said that Joho is an elected member and, therefore, needed not to carry his firearm and bodyguard for he faced no significant threats.

‘’If you are a good leader, why should you feel insecure until you carry your firearm? Why should you need 15 policemen to guard you then complain if some are withdrawn?’’ asked Murkomen.

‘‘If the inspector general walks around with only two policemen, as I saw him in Eldoret, why then should Governor Joho be given 15 policemen?’’ he questioned.

The interior cabinet secretary, Joseph Nkaissery said the move by the government to reduce Joho’s body guards was just the start of reducing the number of body guards attached to senior people in government.

‘‘There are 11,000 bodyguards attached to government officials. The number will be lowered,’’ he said.
