Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has vowed to ensure that President Uhuru Kenyatta wins a second term during the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday in Iten during a roadshow to celebrate his victory in the Jubilee Party primaries, the legislator announced that he would play position 11 in President Kenyatta's presidential campaign team.

He further thanked his constituents for backing his bid, saying it was a clear indication of how much the residents had confidence in his leadership.

“I scored more than 80 per cent of the votes. This is an amazing sign of confidence in me by the people of Elgeyo Marakwet,” he said.

"I will now have to ensure that President Uhuru Kenyatta is re-elected," he added.

Murkomen garnered 83,905 votes, against John Kangogo who was second with 12,724 votes.

The lawmaker will battle it out with former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo, who is gunning for the Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial seat on a Kanu ticket.
