North Rift maize farmers woes took a nasty turn on Monday when Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren launched scathing attacks on Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
The furious MP was reacting following the Senator's earlier sentiments on problems facing maize farmers in the region.
Murkomen had earlier on claimed that Tiren was lamenting too much on the issues facing maize farmers.
According to the MP who was speaking to reporters Eldoret, his lamentations are what made Deputy President Willaim Ruto promise the farmers that they will be paid within a week.
He faulted Murkomen for doing less to help farmers in the region yet he was busy castigating leaders and calling them cartels.
"Honestly, yesterday I was blamed so much by Senator Murkomen saying that I was crying a lot but he should know it is through that that the farmers got Sh2 billion from the DP. I doubt whether he is seeing that or he just thinks farmers are stupid people," noted Tiren.
He further dismissed claims by Murkomen that leaders in the region are working with cartels to import maize into the country instead of helping farmers sell their produce.
"He is saying we are working with cartels, Murkomen is the real cartel, he is the senior cartel because he has been traveling throughout the country, where does he get the money from if he is not a cartel," said Tiren who was recently branded a rebel following a Parliamentary Committee leadership row.
