Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed as false a claim by the National Super Alliance (NASA) that it commands support of 10 million voters countrywide.

Speaking during a campaign rally at Surumben in West Pokot, Murkomen said NASA leaders have panicked ahead of next month's polls and that is why they are peddling false claims.

"It is laughable for the opposition to claim that it has the support of 10 million voters. They are banking on imaginary figures which are very unrealistic to achieve for them," he said.

The Senate Majority Leader said Jubilee Party under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto has majority support across Kenya and will defeat the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led opposition on August 8.

He said Jubilee is enjoying massive backing in areas perceived to be NASA strongholds like Western and Coast regions because of the development projects it has initiated.

“Many of their supporters have trooped to Jubilee and we wonder where they will get the votes they are talking about,” Murkomen said.

The Senator was accompanied by area Governor Simon Kachapin and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.

The Jubilee leaders vowed they will ensure  NASA does not penetrate the Rift Valley region to get votes.

The opposition led by Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has intensified raids in the vote-rich region perceived to be Jubilee stronghold.
