Majority Leader in the Senate Kipchuma Murkomen has reacted to the recent pronouncement of president Uhuru Kenyatta on the proposed constitutional review.
The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator hailed the head of state for putting to rest the raging debate of referendum that has been fronted by a section of political leaders with a view to amending the constitution.
“The position indicated by the President is our party position and we have every reason to support it. Our focus now is to deliver as per our campaign manifesto and concentrate on delivering the Big Four Agenda,” said Murkomen.
While speaking at the State House on Friday, the President opposed the referendum drive, maintaining that he is focused on delivering his Big Four Agenda of Manufacturing, Universal healthcare, Housing, and Food production.
“I want to deliver on the promises I made to Kenyans. Changing the Constitution will not solve the problems we have,” he said
The opposition by the president to the referendum comes on the heel of incessant pressure from the Deputy President William Ruto's allied legislators who in several occasion demanded the president to declare his stand on the plebiscite.
The legislators alleged that the tight-lipped adopted by the president on the issue might scuttle his deputy's journey to the state house ahead of 2022 election.
