Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has cleared the air on opposition leader Raila Odinga's plans for the 2022 presidential race.
In an interview on Citizen TV Sunday, the Senate Majority Leader claimed that the veteran leader has no plans of battling it out with Deputy President William Ruto whose candidature on a Jubilee Party ticket is already clear.
Coming at a time when a section of leaders are yet to come to terms with Odinga's recent truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, Murkomen claimed that the group has built its politics on Odinga and is, therefore, afraid that his absence in the race will be disadvantageous.
''We have a section of Kenyans whose politics survive on Odinga's candidature. These are the people who are making noise out of panic as they have realized that he is out of the 2022 race,'' he said.
''I happen to occupy a privileged office in Senate and am also close to the Deputy President and the other top leaders as well and I know that Odinga is not part of the 2022 contestants. The politicians condemning the truce will have to seek other channels of keeping their politics alive,'' he added.
The former Prime Minister has, however, remained silent on the issue.
