Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has backed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s remarks that academic success is not the only measure for success in life.Shortly after Joho was summoned to record a statement at the DCI Headquarters on Wednesday over allegedly forging his KCSE certificate, Murkomen said Kenyans should be allowed to elect politicians based on their leadership skills and not academic performance.“I totally agree that academic success is not the only measure for success in life. I know in Kenya a person who scores a D- cannot even qualify to serve in any sector of our armed forces,” Murkomen wrote in a Facebook post. The Senator also said Kenyans are wise, adding that they know the right persons to elected into different posts.“I have argued before that those who want to be elected should have qualifications determined by voters. My argument is that the voter is wiser and knows what he wants. The legal requirements for elective offices are forcing many people running for offices to commit many crimes just to get the chance to exercise their dreams. This is wrong," he added.Joho's admission that he scored a D- is continuing to elicit mixed reactions from Kenyans.
