Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed calls for a new election by the Opposition.
NASA led by Raila Odinga has denounced October 26 repeat presidential election, calling for a fresh poll within 90 days.
In an opinion piece published by a local daily, Murkomen noted elections are very costly, adding that Kenya can ill-afford another poll in three months.
"The two elections held in August and October have already cost the country in excess of Sh62 billion, funds sufficient to build two Thika Superhighways or purchase 500 cancer radiotherapy machines for our hospitals," he wrote as published by The Standard, Friday.
The Senator said the prolonged electioneering period was hurting the economy as investors have adopted a wait-and-see attitude.
"Kenya is rapidly losing its competitiveness and dominant position as a regional economic powerhouse due to the prolonged election jitters," he noted.
Murkomen added that a new election is not a viable option for Kenya because the divisive and high-octane political environment has also affected the country's peace, stability, and social cohesion.
"The prevailing situation threatens our very social fabric not to mention the unwarranted injuries, destruction of property, displacement of persons and even deaths," he remarked.
Murkomen told NASA to submit to the law by either presenting a petition to the Supreme Court or forever holding their peace.
"It is only the Supreme Court has the authority to order another election within 90 days and no amount of resistance movements, big announcements, demonstrations, economic boycotts, negotiations or picketing can send Kenya to the ballot," the Jubilee Senator insisted.
