Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has called for calm among the ruling Jubilee Party insiders and supporters following the party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga's newfound friendship.
Speaking in Nyandarua county Saturday, at a time when the nation is already keenly analyzing the possible political reasons behind the union, Murkomen urged Kenyans to focus on the main motive behind the agreement which is national unity.
"Questions are already erupting on whether the union has some hidden agenda. People are already curious on whether this has anything to do with the forthcoming presidential election but that should not be our worry now," said Murkomen.
The Senate Majority Leader pointed out that, just as was mentioned by the two leaders after their agreement Friday, the pact is aimed at solving the many shortcomings facing Kenyans now.
"What we are trying to achieve now is creating a serene environment for healthy political competitions in the future," he added.
Addressing the press outside President Uhuru Kenyatta's Harambee House offices where the meeting was held Friday, both Odinga and Kenyatta vowed to bury the hatchet in what they termed as "national rebuilding".
This has, however, raised questions on whether it could culminate into a political affiliation which could, as a result, sabotage the Uhuru Kenyatta to William Ruto succession plan.
