Murkomen further supported proposed amendments to do away with making university education as a basic requirement to leaders seeking various elective positions.

In his submission before the senate, the outspoken senator claimed that many leaders would take advantage of the requirements to purchase degrees from universities.

“I fully support planned reforms by the education CS in the university education. We want our system to show credibility of the highest order,” he said.

Murkomen added: “Imposing academic qualification to leaders might increase fraud in our institutions. We have seen leaders acquire degrees yet they have never stepped in any class and I have even seen some transacting various business while they claim to have been in class.”

Matiang’i, who has stormed the education sector with a series of reforms, warned recently that he might be forced to close a number of universities due to poor delivery of quality education.
