Elected leaders in the North Rift have been urged to put aside political differences in a bid to boost peace in the region.
Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday said there is a need for the leaders to unite the people for the sake of peace.
The senator said communities in the Rift Valley counties have been fighting and stealing livestock but it is time for leaders to intervene to urge the communities to live in peace, unity, and harmony.
“We should work together to develop the region and end livestock theft that has been a major challenge for years. Elected leaders and those that lost in the August 8 poll should help in preaching peace among the communities and not inciting them to fight each other,” he said.
He called on security teams in the region to intensify security patrols across the borders to ensure there is peace.
“Police officers have a mandate to protect our people and their properties. No one should fail in his or her duties of ensuring peace prevail in the region,” he added.
