Elgeiyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen believes making April a national prayer, forgiveness and reconciliation month will make Kenyans appreciate the importance of living as brothers and sisters.
Speaking in Nakuru on Saturday during a prayer-cum-thanksgiving rally organised after the collapse of the ICC cases, Murkomen called on the national government to fast track the adoption of his idea especially at this critical moment when the country is counting days to the next General Election.
"Today being a special, historic and significant day, I call on the President to make April be a month of forgiveness and reconciliation to be commemorated every year to remind us of our commitment and responsibility in nurturing a peaceful country," he said.
The Senate deputy majority leader noted that it was the responsibility of every Kenyan to co-exist peacefully to avoid a repeat of what befell the country in 2007-08.
He lauded the move of having the cases dropped saying the six individuals who were forced to carry the burden of a whole country should be made heroes.
"Thank you for carrying the burden of over 40 million Kenyans for what most of you might have known nothing about. We will live to celebrate you," he said of the six who had been branded 'the "Ocampo six'.
