Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen will be on the ballot come August 8, to defend his seat.

This is after he was declared the winner of the Jubilee senatorial primaries, Tuesday.

Murkomen won the ticket after garnering over 83, 000 votes against his opponent John Kangogo who came in second with over 12,000 votes.

Other contesters in the race who were defeated by Murkomen include real estate business man Barnabas Boit and NGO specialist Kibiwott.

After the victory, he thanked all those who contributed to his winning.

“I would like to thank the people who believed in me, my family, Marakwet residents, my party, friends and even competitors who gave a good fight,” Murkomen said.

He further promised to serve the interests of residents in his constituency a well as those of jubilee party.

“Before going national, I take this opportunity to say that I will serve the interests of you my people as well as of our party to ensure that we win the next phase,” he said.

Murkomen will now battle it out with former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo who is eyeing the senatorial post on a Kanu party ticket.
