[Photo|DPPS]Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, has asked the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), properly prepare for the presidential election slated for October 26.Citing the controversial Electoral Laws (Amendment) Bill tabled in Parliament by the Jubilee Party, which is the majority, Murkomen told IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, to ignore the Bill, and concentrate on elections preparations. Murkomen, who is as well the Senator of North Rift's Elgeyo Marakwet county, was part of the team that tabled the Bill in Parliament last week, saying it would streamline the electoral process. He defended the Bill, against criticism from the Opposition's NASA coalition, who are opposed to it."I want to assure IEBC that contrary to the perceptions out there, the Bill will not affect their preparations. IEBC should prepare as though there are no amendments to the Elections Act," said Murkomen."Ours is merely to give meaning to what they are already doing," added the lawmaker, Tuesday.Public hearings of the laws are ongoing, Tuesday at parliament buildings.
