Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has launched a scathing attack on his Baringo counterpart Gideon Moi urging him to stop ‘riding’ on his father’s legacy.
Murkomen made the remarks in the company of Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday during the homecoming ceremony of Bureti Member of Parliament Japheth Tanui where he said that Rift Valley will only elect Ruto in 2022 because of what he has done.
“Some people here have not done anything at all. They walk around telling people to elect them because they are sons of so and so. Let me tell you, tells us what you have done so that you can be elected because we are not electing your father,” Murkomne said in an apparent reference to Senator Moi, son to retired President Daniel Moi.
The remarks are likely to widen the rift between DP Ruto’s camp and that of Gideon Moi since the two are jostling for the political supremacy of the populous Rift Valley votes.
The Senate majority leader further said that they will solidly rally behind the Deputy President since he is the ‘anointed’ one to lead the country after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term expires.
“Your Excellency I want to assure you that your time to lead this country has come and just as the Bishop has said, stick with God because you are the one anointed to lead us,” he added.
