Uhuru Kenyatta's act of dropping a potential candidate for the top IEBC job has sparked murmurs of renewed tribalism in the country.
According to a statement released by the State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, president Uhuru had settled on a renowned lawyer Wafula Chebukati for the IEBC chairman seat, and Ms Consolata Nkatha Maina, Boya Molu, Roselyne Kwamboka, Ambassador Paul Kibiwott, Ms Margaret Wanjala and Abdi Guliye are named as commissioners.
The above names have already been passed to the Parliament prior to vetting by the relevant House Committees and the legislators thereafter.
However, even before dust settles on the Uhuru's nominees, fears are already being aired about the criteria he adopted to reject two of the suitably qualified candidates amongst those recommended to him by the expert IEBC Selection Panel.
In the chairmanship post, President Kenyatta rejected Tukero ole Kina, who just like the preferred Chebukati practices law in Mombasa law courts.
It has further emerged that Chebukati hails from Trans Nzoia County, just as IEBC's current CEO Mr Ezra Chiloba.
This now means that the governing regional representations in top public offices, the CEO will have to resign if Chebukati's chairman is confirmed.
Analysts have wondered as to whether Chebukati has special skills as to warrant an ethnic-centred change in the entire IEBC leadership
