A proposal to have Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi head the new merger with Ford-Kenya has met fierce repudiation.
Alleged early endorsements from a section of leaders in the Opposition leaned for Mudavadi over his Ford-Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula for his respected stature in politics.
A report carried by Daily Nation claimed former Kakamega Senator who is also Ford-Kenya deputy party leader Boni Khalwale crusaded for Musalia Mudavadi to be the “overall leader based on his experience and seniority in politics.”
This was not well received by other key persons in both Mudavadi’s ANC and Wetangula’s Ford-Kenya.ANC Secretary General Godfrey Osotsi rubbished the pro-Mudavadi proposal.
His Ford-Kenya comrade Dr Eseli Simiyu also expressed disapproval of the same offer saying; “We have not effectively consulted on the merger and we should not get ahead of ourselves at this early stage.”
Dr Eseli’s sentiments marry well with ex-ANC Secretary General Barack Muluka who told Kenyans.co.ke on Monday that the matter was still in its budding stages and much could not be said openly. Mr Muluka said both sides are deliberating on the subject. ANC is to give its proposals to the project’s technical committee over the weekend before an announcement is made.
Dr Boni Khalwale has however denied proposing Musalia Mudavadi as the merger’s chief. He said the idea was birthed by a group of antagonists who do not want to see the dream come true.
Meanwhile, ANC Secretary General, Geoffrey Osotsi painted a grim picture of the whole project. He claimed the said merger had nothing to do with Luhya unity. To him, the project is merely wishful thinking.
