University of Nairobi political scientist Julius Ndege argues that Uganda could have as well cut its relationship with Kenya after many years of close ties.
On Monday, Uganda reportedly supported newly elected African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Mahamat of Chad despite having promised to vote for Kenya's Amina Mohammed.
According to Ndege, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni's relationship could have hit a bottom low in the past few months.
"Museveni was a fierce defendant of Kenyatta but he has kept a low profile of late. He no longer comments on critical issues affecting the two nations," he said.
Ndege added: "The issue of controversial construction of a pipeline could be the reason behind it. Uganda opted to work with Tanzania rather than Kenya. This could be the origin of the crisis."
But despite voting for Chad's candidate, Uganda through its Nairobi embassy, has dismissed the alleged strained relationship between the two nations.
Also on the list of the countries which snubbed Kenya in AU elections are Burundi, Rwanda and Djibouti, further raising questions to integration among East African countries.
