Nyatike MP Tom Odege has accused the government of Kenya for allegedly watching Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni ‘colonize’ part of her territory.
Last week, 22 Kenyan fishermen were reportedly arrested by Ugandan authorities despite Migingo Island being in Kenya.
“Uganda has raised her flag in Migingo and indication that Kenya has lost a genuine territory to them. The government is doing nothing about it perhaps the region is now a colony of Museveni,” he told KTN.
On Wednesday, Inspector General of police Joseph Boinet said Kenya is following on the matter adding that the government will however not protect fishermen who may have broken the law.
But Odege has now threatened to mobilise locals to boycott paying taxes on grounds that the government has failed to protect occupants of the Island.
“We do not have option other than to mobilise our people to stop paying taxes. It is weird that we can suffer under Ugandan oppressors,” he added.
The Migingo Island has been a center of controversy since 2011 despite diplomatic missions from both countries to quell tension in the Lake Victoria Island.
