Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has suggested a solution to end the long conflict on fishing activities on Migingo island.
Kenya has been feuding with Uganda over the Lake Victoria island for years now, with no solution being offered by either side, until now.
Speaking during the commissioning of Busia town as a one-stop border post, Museveni called for the installation of radar and high tech surveillance to end disputes between Kenyan small-scale farmers and Ugandan soldiers. He added that the move would grow fish stick at the lake.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has relatively been quiet over the issue, did not declare his position over the matter.
The conflict reached its peak during former President Mwai Kibaki's second term, when Ugandan soldiers chased away Kenyan farmers from the tiny island, which is said to belong to Kenya. But Ugandan authorities claim it is on their waters.
The conflict has been dying down over the past five years, with few reported confrontations between the two countries.
