The South Rift Regional Commissioner Wanyama Musiambo has called on the civil society not to be biased against the police in handling their issues.

Speaking about collaboration between the Kenya Police Service and the Civil Society Organisations, Musiambo lamented that the Civil Society shouts a lot on issues affecting the citizenly but are silent when the police are on the receiving end.

“The Civil Society was silent when our police were killed in Baragoi and in Kapendo and the only outrage was voiced by the government. On the other hand, they shout when just one citizen is killed and I think this is a case of double standards,” challenged Musiambo.

He was speaking on Wednesday at Waterbuck Hotel during a workshop held by Midrift Human Rights Network which is a local NGO to look into the issue of Urban Violence and how to deal with it in Nakuru Municipality.

The RC also talked on the issue of the County Policing Authority (CPA) where he said that it was his hope that the Nakuru Governor would initiate the process of the CPA which is a constitutional requirement.

“So far, only Nyeri and Tharaka Nithi Counties had set up the CPA and the police in those areas have their work greatly simplified,” said Musiambo in his first public appearance since he was posted to Nakuru.

Reacting to the same, Peter Kiama the director of Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) NGO requested the RC to ask the Governor to hasten the process of setting up, the CPA before the 2017 elections.

“Kindly ask the Governor to hasten the process of setting up the CPA before we go into the 2017 elections as this will greatly help in security monitoring within the County,” said Kiama.
