Upcoming musicians in Nakuru have been urged to venture into traditional music composition and production.
The Nakuru county youth affairs director Ambrose Wesonga addressed local artistes and thespians at the Nakuru Players Theater during a performing arts and cultural workshop. He hoped that artists could both bridge the gap between mainstream music and local music production, and attain uniqueness and originality.
“I would like to challenge our upcoming musicians to try venturing into traditional music as it will provide uniqueness and originality in their works. You cannot attain your dreams in music industry by continuously aping foreign and other local artistes. You must produce unique and original pieces,’’ said Wesonga.
He added that the government was committed towards promoting Kenya’s unique culture and traditions by nurturing talents in cultural productions.
According to Wesonga, the youth can only enrich themselves by going back to their roots. He pointed out that the youth should produce artistic material that reflected the values of Kenya’s rich cultural heritage, and that this heritage already had a big market locally and internationally.
