A Muslim cleric has urged security agents in Garissa County to solve several mysterious murders that happened in the last two years.
Sheikh Hussein Mahat said some of the murders in the county in which several people were killed in mysterious circumstances have not been resolved.
The sheikh said at least 20 murders have taken place in the past two years which upto now have remain unresolved with the culprits still at large.
Citing the recent attack at a local hotel where three men were killed by unknown assailants, Mr Mahat said the police have been unable to make any headway and the murders just adds to the growing list of unresolved cases.
“The resemblance of some of these murders suggests that they are being carried out by the same people and the police need to probe these deaths,” he said.
“We acknowledge the security officers have helped restore sanity in the once-troubled town, but the fact that these murders haven’t been resolved means the police have their work cut out for them,” he added.
Recently, a human rights activist asked the police to make public the results of investigations of the killing of three men.
Northern Forum for Democracy (NFD) coordinator Khalif Abdi had asked the police to provide details on how a watchman and two hotel employees were killed at the hotel compound.
Mr Abdi also called for speedy investigations and the arrest of those involved in the incident where the three were hit with blunt objects on their heads by unknown gang.
