Muslim clerics in Garissa have called on the state to provide sufficient security for the residents ahead of the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
The month which is set to start on May 16 will be observed by all Muslims globally as commanded in the holy book of Quran.
Speaking to the press at Supkem offices in Garissa, May 9, 2018, the clerics pleaded with the president in conjunction with the Ministry of Interior and Coordination to increase the number of officers patrolling the region to provide extra surveillance during the entire month of fasting.
"We want to ask the president and the ministry of interior to provide sufficient security for the muslims in the region as we observe the holy month of Ramadan. We further ask the state to increase the number of officers patrolling the region so that they can supplement the efforts of their colleagues on the ground," read the statement.
The clerics further urged muslims fraternity to observe the holy month dutifully and extend hands to less- privileged families in the society who cannot afford their bread in the entire days of the month
