Led by Sheikh Khalif Abdi, the Muslims leaders urged the political aspirants to focus on issues spelt out in their manifesto during their campaigns.

Sheikh Abdi said leaders should focus on uniting the residents as opposed to making inflammatory remarks that could affect the residents ahead of the General Elections.

Speaking on Tuesday during a graduation ceremony at Madara Najah, Sheikh Abdi expressed concern saying that the political class in the region was creating tension in the ongoing campaigns which could create inter clan animosity.

“The residents should not fall into this trap but should elect leaders who will address their issues and meet their expectations. We should not vote on clans’ inclinations but for individuals and what they stand for,” he said.

Sheikh Abdirahman Korane on his part said the clerics were concerned how the aspirants were using branded vehicles in their campaigns to perpetuate hate between clans.

“As clerics we are concerned about the use of branded vehicles fitted with public address systems to campaign within the streets of Garissa town and its environs, which was not only a nuisance but are used by their campaigners to perpetuate hate between clans,” he said.
