Mombasa County Commissioner Maalim Mohamed has urged Muslim clerics to carry out campaigns against radicalisation and drug abuse in Mosques during this month of Ramadhan.
He said the move will aid in restoring security at the Coast.
Speaking during a security meeting with Muslim clerics on Tuesday in Mombasa, Maalim asked the clerics to ensure Mosques are not used as terrorist hide outs.
“I urge clerics to take advantage of the month of Ramadhan to preach peace and enlighten the community on the dangers of radicalisation,” said Maalim.
He also put on notice Imams and religious leaders who allow their Mosques to be used as platforms of propagating messages that can disrupt the order of the country, adding that the government will not spare individuals who involve themselves in terrorism in the name of religion.
He also called on religious leaders and peace ambassadors to identify suspicious characters who might be hiding among residents.
