The chairman of Imams and Preachers Uasin Gishu County Mr Abubakar Bini has urged the government, the Teachers Service Commission and the teachers unions to embrace dialogue.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Bini said the only way to solve the teachers strike is by President Uhuru Kenyatta calling for a one-on-one round table negotiations with all the parties involved since the government has failed in implementing the court ruling that awarded the teachers the 50-60 per cent pay increase.

"I urge President Uhuru Kenyatta who is the head of the nation to take the teachers strike seriously by calling all the parties involved and agree on how the pay rise will be implemented even if it will take five years for them to be paid instead of playing hard ball that the government does not have the money,” he said.

He reiterated that he supports the industrial court ruling by judge Nelson Abuodha on Friday to suspend the strike for 90 days but urged both parties to be sincere in their engagements.

“Our children have really suffered for one month without going to school and yet most of them are sitting their national exams. It is absurd and I urge the President to act with speed and call the teachers unions for dialogue instead of always fighting in the courts," he added.
