Muslim leaders in Uasin Gishu have blamed the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for giving untrained drivers licenses.
Led by Sayid Jaafar Bin Sayid Muhamed, they said most drivers get licenses through the back door without proper training.
“As Muslim leaders, we are not happy with the way peoples' lives are being lost through road accidents the government should investigate NTSA since some quack drivers are given licenses yet they haven’t attended any driving class,” he said in Eldoret town, Sunday.
“For heaven sake, if you are tired and drunk, don’t drive we don’t want to see many other people losing their lives. I call upon matatu owners not to set a high target for their drivers to meet during this festive season since they drive fast and carelessly to meet the target thus causing accidents,” he added.
He, however, urged Kenyans to maintain peace and avoid leaders that want to divide them based on their political and tribal affiliations.
“Politics is now gone let's embrace each other as brothers and sisters since Kenya is for all of us and we should refrain from abusing each other in the name of wanting to change the leadership of the country,” noted Sayid Jaafar Bin Sayid Muhamed.
His sentiments were echoed by Uasin Gishu CIPK Chairman Abubakar Bini who urged NTSA officials to conduct regular patrols and arrest rogue drivers braking traffic rules.
