Muslim leaders from Uasin Gishu County have criticised a decision by the High Court to allow Gay and lesbians to form their own welfare union.
Mr Abubakhar Bini, the chairman of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), Uasin Gishu branch and other leaders said that the court order was contrary to African culture.
“We do not recognise same sex relations.Even our communities and culture abhors same sex unions and we will never accept it in the country,” said Bini.
Speaking on Wednesday to journalists in Eldoret town, Bini insisted that the principles and canons of Islam and Christianity strongly condemn romantic relationship of people of the same sex.
He urged the government to stay firm and not to allow western countries to push them to recognise same-sex unions in the country.
“Western nations have their own culture, laws and their policies and they have no right to force us as Africans to adopt same sex marriages because we have our own culture and believes,” he added.
The High Court recently allowed the registration of associations by gays and lesbian community following consistent campaigns by the activists since 2012.
