The Muslim officers, majorly from the Kenya Defence Forces and from North Eastern regions have exited the service due to frustrations from their seniors, poor working environments and unfounded accusations of being either terrorists or their sympathisers.

These emerging developments come at a time when the National Intelligence Service and the Kenyan military intelligence wing are reported to be closely monitoring Muslim officers in the force over alleged radicalisation in the country's security facilities.

One of a Muslim officer in the force was quoted saying the accusations are disheartening as they have continuously served the country with diligence.

“You know, we have served this country with much dedication. But it is very disheartening to be branded a terrorist or a sympathiser and an enemy from within,” an officer who opted to willingly resign was quoted.

The report further cited that radicalisation claims have caused deep resentment and suspicion between junior and senior security officers, a fact that security analysts say is a ticking time bomb.
