Shisia says that police have beefed up security at all points across the country ahead of Ramadhan that starts on Friday.

The County commissioner said that police will be on a 24 hour surveillance to ensure safety of Muslims and other locals.

He asked residents to cooperate with security officials and also report people suspicious people to the police.

The Commissioner said that a multi-agency security team is in place and there is no need for locals to fear.

“We have taken key security measures that will ensure safety of locals during and after the holy month of Ramadhan,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.

On Sunday, Deputy President William Ruto assured Muslims of their security as they mark Ramadhan.

The DP said that the government has lifted a curfew on Mandera to allow Muslims to mark the holy month.

North Eastern Regional coordinator Mohamed Saleh says that security apparatus are on top gear, adding that security will be guaranteed in the region during Ramdhan and the forthcoming August 8 general election.

Muslims will be marking their holy month of Ramadhan from Friday May 26 to Saturday June 24 and have been urged to pray for the country's peaceful August 8 polls.
