Muslim faithful in Kisumu County have been assured of maximum security as they mark this year’s edition of the Holy Month, commonly known as Ramadhan.
Kisumu County Police Commander Mr. John Kamau said that they have put in enough security measures to ensure that Muslims in the county mark the month without any major security incidences.
“I want to assure my Muslim brothers that all is well. There security is guaranteed as they mark the Holy month,” said Kamau in his office on Wednesday.
“We will deploy enough police officers to ensure their security. Police officers are on high alert owing to the fact that terror groups such as Al Shabaab maybe scheming to carry out their activities during this Ramadan,” he said.
According to Wikipedia, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
It is observed by Muslims across the world as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to the Islamic belief.
The annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
The month lasts 29–30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon.
