Muslim leaders in Uasin Gishu county have cried foul of exclusion from the recently formed 14-member team that seeks to actualize the truce reached between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Led by the county's Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini, the clergy said it was unfair that the team had no representation from the Muslim community.
They called for the reconstitution of the team to ensure it reflects representation from all stakeholders.
“As Muslims, we are not happy at with the 14 member team on unity talks, why Imams were not included while Christians were represented by Bishops. Why are we discriminated? Are we lesser Kenyans?” said the CIPK boss in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
Bini reiterated that they should also be included in the list since they played a major role in bringing Kenyans together after the hotly contested presidential elections.
“I want to call upon President Uhuru Kenya and the opposition chief Raila Odinga to at least include a Muslim clergy in the list for us to feel part of the talks since we feel neglected,” he added noting that for the country to be united all people should be included regardless their political, religious or tribal affiliations.
Commending on political issues, the CIPB Uasin Gishu chairman warned politicians against early campaign saying Kenyans are tired and its time for them to work for the electorates.
